The newness of old things...

Sometimes you go for years without seeing certain items and then you see a set of double rainbows.  I am always awed by God's handiwork, the grace and salvation I know we have.  We now have a set of bobwhites.  I went out to the chicken pen the other day and heard him calling.  I answered him back.  I bet he has a nest under some brush next to the chicken pen.  It has been years since I have heard the one of a kind call of a bobwhite.  I am praying the nest they have will produce more of the birds that make that sweet sound.  If you have never heard the call of a bobwhite, look it up.  They have a unique call.

Have you ever seen, heard or smelled something that all of the sudden brings back a flood of childhood memories?  What are the things that trigger those memories for you?  Some of mine are home made cinnamon rolls.  Those remind me of my grandma Stone.  She always made cinnamon rolls during the holidays.  The way their house was set up it was perfect for running out the back door off the kitchen around to the front door off the living room and back through. Now there were a lot of cousins for the holidays.  Grandma always gave us kids a bite of the dough after she had gotten the goodies rolled up.  No telling how many batches of cinnamon rolls she made as we always had to have more than one bite.  I don't remember Grandma Stone making cakes but she could make wonderful pies and cinnamon rolls.   Sometimes, I will pass somebody and the smell of their powder reminds me of Grandma Stone.  Home made vegetable soup or stewed tomato  with cornbread ahhhh, now there is a memory of Grandma Draughon.  Sometimes I get hungry for cornbread and stewed tomatoes but, I can't have that without it bringing memories of happy times.  Goulash is one of those things Mom could make that would melt in your mouth and buttermilk pound cake is another that reminds me of Mom.

Do you ever wonder what your children will pull out of their past that will bring along memories galore? What are the flowers you remember from your childhood/early adult years?  Well, lets see phlox, petunias, daylilies, cannas, 4-o'clocks on one side.  On the other side poppies, 4-o'clocks, lantana, phlox, pin cushion cactus, Christmas cactus, roses and many, many  more.  You see Grandma had no grass in her yard but she had flowers everywhere.  I know we played in that yard all the time yet I never remember getting in trouble for hurting one of her plants.  Hmmmmmmm probably just don't remember.

As we get to the Thanksgiving and Christmas season what are the foods that you remember as a child or young adult.  Daddy was always in charge of the meat until he died.  Oh, what a cook he was. Come to think of it there were 2 good Such memories.  Below I am going to place a photo gallery.  What are the happy memories you need to focus on? Mom, Dad, Grandpa & Grandma Stone, Grandma and Grandpa Draughon, Deann and Tanna.
