Unexpected Blessings

I finished tiling my next area of garden, got the onions bundled, ginger dug, bell peppers picked, and left for town.  I met a friend tro deliver the bellpeppers and then went to Weir to check the mail.  I got a phone call and had to go to WilliamsonCounty Recycle Center (www.mytexashhw.com) and meet the gentleman who had recertified our Purple K fire extinguisher.  As I left there I noticed the clouds beginning to slowly form.  I went to the Monument Market to deliver onions and ginger, then to the bank, and on to HEB.  As I was at the checkout counter in HEB they announced no more carry outs due to the lightening.  I am at this point preaying I get home quick enough to get Skip (our male dog) in before it starts to rain.  I dodge the lightening on the way to the car and was very thankful to get the groceries in the car and safely begin my journey home.  About half way home I get a text from my brother in law letting me know he has put Skip in the warehouse and closed the chickens up. By this time  it is really getting dark and there is quiet a lightening display annnnnnnnnnd then the rain and hail begin. I decide to park in the garage, get the groceries in, and then come back for Skip. By the time I got there it was pouring so on to plan B which is get only the perishable groceries, Skip and make a mad dash to the back door. By the time I get to the back door I am soaked, the door is locked, the wind is blowing, it is cold and I cannot find my keys. I finally put the groceries down and told Skip to go to the front door. Surely it is open. As we run I am trying to find the keys just in case. Skip runs around the house up the steps then back down to see where I am. I finally find the keys so I can unlock the door which IS locked. I was so cold and wet by this time that the only thing I really is interested in is getting a towel to dry on and get out of my wet clothes. This was a wakeup call as to how much of a wimp I am because by
now I was shaking and so cold I could hardly function. I finally was able to get the groceries off the back porch and get them put up along with lighting a couple of candles just in case the electricity went out. It is things like this
that really make me realize how much God protects me. Let me count the ways:
1) lightening did not hit me
2) Skip was not in the rain
3) hail did not damage my car
4) I found my key before I lost control
5) the storm was not as bad as predicted
6) the garden got a good rain
Yes, God is Good, He is Good all the time!

One Thing Leads to Another

I am praising God for a multitude of things I have to thank Him for and the lessons learned along the way. We normally take the week of Thanksgiving off but, not really if you get my drift.  This year we all actually took time off and did things around the home front that really needed to be done.  My husband mowed back half of garden and disk it for me, helped me clean the chickenhouse, work on the compost pile, and smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving.  What a blessing!  Our son closed on his house and has started the process of repairs in order to move in.  Along with family being here come the giggles of the children, the hugs, and snuggle time.

As usual there are things to be learned from every day that we live, some big some small. As I was preparing and cleaning for the big day I realized I had 2 bags of hot peppers sitting on my cabinet that needed to be handled.  Well, what was there to do but get the dryer set up, bowls and knives out, and get started?  I thought I was never going to see the bottom of the bag.  With the peppers in the dryer, the pies made, dressing ready to be cooked, cranberry salad finished I felt pretty good about all accomplished.  As night grew close the burn increased.  Yes, you know what I am talking about.  The burn of the hot peppers on my hands.  I washed, scrubbed, lotioned, used alcohol, scope and several other things trying to get it to subside. By the time I got in bed I was thinking I was in trouble. I was thinking it was going to be a very bad Thanksgiving if I couldn't get the burn to stop.  I was not able to stay in bed long so I got up, pulled out the ole computer and started searching for things to cut the burn.  There were several things that were suggested but, the one that seem to have the most positive feedback was sour cream.  Yep, sour cream!   I just happened to have a container so I slather it on my hands praying the pain would subside.  Within about 15 minutes I was able to go back to bed and get some good sleep. Praise God for the answer.  Lesson learned: Always put gloves on when working with hot peppers.  Since this happened I have heard several good stories.  I would love to hear yours.

Thanksgiving Approaches

11/17/2012

As Thanksgiving approaches I am pondering all I have to be thankful for.  I have a wonderful Savior who has saved me and allow me to be able to look forward to spending eternity with Him.  He has lifted me up when I saw no hope, no light, no way.  Sometimes I think we as a nation have forgotten the reason Thanksgiving was originally started. As I was thinking about the best way to share this information I decided I would put a link to the Wikipedia site.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_(United_States).  We now live in a country where we are trying to take away any mention of God in our history.  Somehow, as Christians we need to stand firm and graciously praise our God for all His blessings.  I have so many things to be thankful for that God has seen fit to bless me with:  my family, friends, Lacy Game Dogs (www.bluelacykennels.com), our farm, donkey to make me giggle, roosters to wake me, grandchildren to make me laugh out loud, food, strength to get through the rough times that come to anybody if you are alive.

Thanksgiving brings back such happy childhood memories for me.  We were either at Grandma Stone's or Grandma Draughon's.  At Grandma Stone's I always knew she was going to bake cinnamon rolls.  Now that was not the best part though........as she was getting them ready to go in the oven the kids were running and playing.  Of course we had to run through the house just to check on the progress.  As we ran through the kitchen she would give us a bite of raw cinnamon roll... YUMMY.  Looking back I now know she had to of made at least 1 extra batch just to hand out to the grands and great grands.  Now at Grandma Draughon's there were always a ton of cousins to play with.  As we got older there were always card tables set up and a few games of 42 and dominoes going on.  Oh yeah even though Grandma and Grandpa Draughon were poor there was always a feast at the table.  As I reflect on this I pray that my grandchildren will have good memories of Thanksgiving with their Grandparents.

So what are you thankful for this year?

How many of you have all of the sudden found yourself doing something you have never done before in your young life?  I had one of those experiences just last week.  Below is a poem that I wrote at God's moving.

"Piece by  Piece"
.
As the leaves fall from the trees so have the pieces of America.
Piece by piece mostly unnoticed as we hurry on our way.
Our  busy way.
Piece by Piece

Pieces of America fallen never to return.
Hardly noticed until it was too late.
Piece by piece

Our loyalty to God dropped along the way without notice.
Replace with things of no value, no life.
Piece by piece.

Our Christian history changed piece by piece.
His people remain strangely silent.
Replaced by lies until our history as a Godly nation exist no more.
Piece by Piece.

Each piece replaced with an idol.
Until unrecognizable.
Piece by piece.

As the flowers shed their petals so America has shed its values.
Shed its strengths found in God as we hide Him in the closet.
Piece by piece.

Too late we wake, too late.
Our county, founded on Godly principles is gone, gone, gone.
As we sat silently by watching but, ignoring, to busy, not my business.
On and on.
Piece by piece.

Now we we will reap a harvest.
Oh what a harvest.
Sold to the highest bidder.
Piece by piece.

I am 57 years old and ever growing in the Lord.  Sometimes I am graciously growing sometimes not so graciously.  What are your thoughts on your life.  Proverbs 16:3
